The High Altitude Balloon Experiments in Technology (HABET) is a student-run organization that performs experiments in Near-Space. They perform these experiments in a box called a 'spacecraft'. Part of this spacecraft is for gathering data and then sending this telemetry back down to their command center. However, the equipment that HABET uses for telemetry has a low data handling capability of only 1200 baud in the main computer. Therefore the Expandable Memory System team has been assigned the task of designing a high capacity data storage system that will allow large amounts of serial data to be collected in flight and be compatible with HABET's current Heavy Spacecraft Bus design. This data can then be retrieved and analyzed after the spacecraft has been recovered. This will extend HABET's capability for future experiments and also allow them to capture in-flight video during part of the balloon flight. |
